About the author:
MAXIM is a Czech-American visual artist originally from Prague. He was born in Prague under communism. His artistic life began in childhood, when he was getting lost in the labyrinths of large canvases in his uncle's attic studio and admired their color and size. MAXIM studied at the Graphic Industry School in Hellichova Street, where he learned the basics of graphic design, photography, lithography, calligraphy and printing. At the age of 24 he left for the United States, driven by a desire for adventure and reaching new horizons. Finally, he settled down in Los Angeles, where his desire to paint became fully manifested.
MAXIM’s work is strongly influenced by people's lives and their stories. He found inspiration in the study of history, nature, cosmology, physics, and socio-economic and political events. He works with mixed media: canvas, paper, acrylic paints, oil paints, oil pastels, charcoal, inks, linen, marble, sand, clay, crayons, pencils and other materials. He enjoys trying experimental techniques that give art a unique form. His work is characterized by heavy texture, symbolism, free form and uncompromising freedom of expression.
MAXIM has had many solo and group exhibitions across the US and Europe and, in 2018, he won the hearts of the Prague audience with the European premiere of his solo exhibition The Alchemist.
